Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about climbing with us at Red River Gorge. Don't see your question? Get in touch.

Getting Started

I've never climbed outdoors before. Can I still book a session?

Absolutely! Our Intro to Outdoor Climbing course is designed specifically for total beginners. We'll teach you everything you need to know, and all gear is included.

What if I've only climbed in a gym?

Our Guided Climbing Experience is perfect for gym climbers transitioning outdoors. We'll help you adapt your skills to real rock, teach outdoor safety systems, and guide you through route selection.

Do I need to be in great shape?

Not at all! We tailor our instruction to your fitness level and climbing goals. We have routes for all abilities at Red River Gorge.

Safety & Certification

Are you certified guides?

We are both pursuing our SPI (Single Pitch Instructor) certification in July 2026 through AMGA, the gold standard for climbing instruction in the US. We'll be fully certified before our official launch in September 2026.

What safety protocols do you follow?

We follow AMGA standards for single-pitch guiding, including comprehensive risk management, redundant safety systems, and conservative terrain selection. We also carry first aid kits and emergency communication devices.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry commercial general liability and professional liability insurance specifically for climbing instruction.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes. All clients must sign a liability waiver before participating. We'll send this to you via email after booking.

Gear & Equipment

Do I need to bring my own gear?

Nope! All technical climbing gear is included: harnesses, helmets, belay devices, ropes, and quickdraws. You just need to bring appropriate clothing, water, and snacks.

What should I wear?

Comfortable athletic clothing that allows movement, closed-toe shoes (we provide climbing shoes if needed), and layers for changing weather. Avoid jeans—they restrict movement.

What if I want to use my own gear?

You're welcome to use your own gear if you prefer! We'll inspect it to ensure it meets safety standards.

Booking & Logistics

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 2 weeks in advance, especially for weekends and specialty clinics. Peak season (spring and fall) books up quickly.

What's your cancellation policy?

You can cancel or reschedule up to 48 hours before your trip for a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours forfeit the deposit, but we're flexible for emergencies and bad weather.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety first! If weather conditions are unsafe (rain, lightning, extreme heat), we'll work with you to reschedule at no charge. We monitor forecasts closely and will notify you 24 hours in advance if possible.

Where do we meet?

We'll send you detailed meeting location info after booking. We typically meet at a trailhead parking area at Red River Gorge. The exact location depends on your skill level and the routes we've selected.

Can I book a private session?

Yes! All our services can be booked as private sessions. This is especially popular for families, custom coaching, or groups who want a tailored experience.

Group Size & Ages

What's the maximum group size?

We typically guide groups of 1-6 people for standard trips. For specialty clinics, we cap at 6 participants to ensure personalized instruction.

Can kids participate?

Yes! Our Family Adventure Package is designed for children 4 and up. We climb with our own nearly 4-year-old son, so we understand how to make climbing fun and safe for kids.

Do you offer women's-only sessions?

Absolutely! Tyler leads our Women's Climbing Clinic, which includes pelvic health discussion, core strength work, and climbing technique in an all-women environment.

Physical Therapy & Injury Prevention

What makes your injury prevention clinic different?

Tyler is a Doctor of Physical Therapy specializing in pelvic health and a certified Pilates instructor. She brings evidence-based movement assessment, climbing-specific mobility work, and injury prevention strategies you won't find with other guides.

I'm recovering from an injury. Can I still climb?

It depends on your injury and clearance from your doctor. Tyler can provide movement assessments and modify climbing instruction to work within your limitations. Always consult your healthcare provider first.

Can Tyler provide physical therapy services?

Our guiding services are separate from Tyler's physical therapy practice. However, her PT background informs our movement coaching and injury prevention education during guided sessions.
